Fight fans in the Civic Hall were thrilled to an incredible display of mixed martial arts as Celtic Gladiator hosted their twelfth event in Essex. The capacity crowd and viewers on FightBox HD saw ten entertaining fights.
The action started immediately as David Basharat ended the first fight with a first round knockout over Alexandra Bilobrovka.
Our second fight was a K-1 contest that saw Armando Monteiro claim a decision victory over Mateusz Bak. The opening round saw Bak using his length to keep Monteiro at bay, but as the fight proceeded the Portuguese managed to get inside and drew blood from the Pole. Monteiro appeared to land the more meaningful blows in the fight and the judges clearly saw it that way as they awarded the Lisbon-based fighter a close decision victory.
In another K-1 bout Cill Wan won the first ever female fight in Celtic Gladiator by way of decision against Gemma Montefiore. The Brit downed her opponent on way to a unanimous decision win in her debut.
In or final K-1 bout of the night Filipa Mourao defeated Katarzyna Twardowska in another close decision. The Portuguese overcame a hostile crowd, heavily favouring the Pole to claim victory. UFC legend Brad Pickett was on hand to give Filipa her trophy for winning.
The heavyweight contest between Tomasz Czerwinski and John “Chopper” Painter ended quickly. Chopper went for a takedown and Czerwinski sprawled to gain the dominant position and used his ground and pound to end the fight inside a minute. After the fight Tomasz called out Catalin Zmarandescu and challenged him to fight in the cage.
In one of the slower fights of the night Leonardo Gosling beat Jose Agustin Garcia in a third round TKO. There was a lot of clinch work in the opening two rounds and the referee had to get involved multiple times because of inactivity, but Gosling managed to take Garcia down in the third round and ground and pounded his way to the TKO victory.
Arunas Andriuskevicius earned a TKO victory over Luciano Zampieri in the first round. Zampieri was in the mount position, but Arunas was able to turn it into a triangle choke and then transitioned it into the top position where he was able to finish with strikes.
Alex Montagnani overcame a gritty performance from Shaun Lomas to earn a unanimous decision victory. Montagnani started strong with a huge slam on the experienced Lomas, but near the end of the first round Lomas soccer kicked Montagnani in the head. The referee intervened and docked Lomas two points and Alex came back to grind his way to the decision.
In our co-main event Przemysław Mysiala made Dimitri Bouchet tap out. The Polish Bear received a huge reception from the crowd and overcame strong resistance from the Frenchman throughout the fight, but he eventually locked in a kimura to earn the submission victory.
Our main event saw the eagerly awaited showdown between Leszek Krakowski and Nathan Batista and it did not disappoint as we saw a dominant display of grappling from Krakowski. The Pole overpowered the Brazilian on the ground throughout the three rounds, but Nathan valiantly provided a lot of resistance and caused a cut on Krakowski. To the delight of the boisterous crowd Leszek was declared the winner by unanimous decision.
